How we can help you

Autism Western Cape runs a number of training workshops to support teachers, social workers and other professionals working with people affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Learner Facilitator’s Course

Since inclusive education is a reality in our education system, the need for trained and effective learner facilitators at school is growing fast.

Schools and parents find that children with special needs and behaviour difficulties often can not manage the mainstream school system without the support and guidance of an effective facilitator. With the necessary and essential input of a well-equipped facilitator, children can reach their optimal potential and often also attain independence.

This course will equip you with the necessary skills to manage difficult behaviours and to facilitate a child with special needs, in a school. It is a practical course that teaches management techniques and a positive approach to education, looks at behavioural motivations and principles, the needs of children who needs facilitators, setting goals for children and adapting their educational needs, effective communication with children, their parents and the school. Teachers would also benefit from acquiring skills to manage difficult and disruptive classroom behaviours. The course is compiled and presented by a clinical psychologist working with children for 26 years.
